Sunflowers Planted at Eidem Farm

While Alice slept peacefully in her car seat (covered with a bug cover to keep flies away) a few feet away, we transplanted the sunflowers from their green cups to the Eidem farm garden today. My camera's batteries were not up to snuff and so you'll have to imagine two tiny people learning about tilling the soil with a pitch fork, pulling out weeds to make a space for plants, keeping roots together with their plant, making the "right" size hole in the dirt, applying proper amounts of pressure to the base of the plant to make it stay in the ground, how much to water when you're done, and learning to work together as a team to steer a small plastic wheel barrow to the compost pile... that being the most difficult thing to do of them all! They both wanted to fight, do it themselves, or give up. But, perhaps with practice, by the end of the summer this lesson in teamwork will be given no extra thought.

It's hard to believe that this is the second to last week.I can't really believe that we've come this far!
