Today's fine arts lesson included choosing a favorite classic artwork from all the cards in our "Mommy, It's a Renoir" art curriculum and taking the colors from it as inspiration for the kids to make their own. We dug out the paper and paints and the kids did a great job.
Henry selected Maurice Prendergast's "East River." Usually Henry's art descends into a swirling of all the paint into one big brown thing as his colors mix. Today, however he was very careful to keep his colors separate from each other. He's progressing!
Cora pulled her color inspiration from "Mother and Child" by Pablo Picasso, to make a collection of trees from different seasons. She too was careful to keep her colors from mixing (more so than usual because Henry was doing such a nice job and getting complimented for it.)
She said that she put children in the trees, and if you looked carefully you would find a hammock with Baby Girl in it.
While they painted, the kids listened to Saint Saenz's "Carnival of the Animals." We are planning a field trip to the MN Orchestra to hear it live tomorrow with many schoolers and homeschoolers. I didn't get to go to our last family orchestra outing, it will be my first!

You have two budding little artists. I love both of their pictures!
First of all, how cool is it that they have a "fine art" lesson! I think it's interesting to see the pictures they were inspired by.
